I’m building a cart right now and I’m struggling with the Axel and wheel mount. Any guidance you can share with me on how you did yours? That cart looks legit!
Jason lowery I struggled with that too, I was hoping for something light and possibly removable, I got neither. I ended using pex tubing (the same as the 3/4 to 1/2 adapters sold on the site) inserted it in the emt then fed a 1/2 threaded rod through it and secured the wheels with some large fender washers and nylon locking nuts. If you come up with something better let me know and I’d love to see yours when it’s done.
Rustin Manning Thanks so much I think I’m gonna give that a try, I thought about using those adapter too. I happen to work with pex all the time and I’ll check that out! The seat idea is brilliant as well as the razor scooter handles. 👌
If I were to do it again I’d probably go with 1/2” emt with the spacers, I think it’d save a fair amount of weight while still being strong enough. Go with the biggest wheels you can, they make it much easier to roll over uneven terrain. I don’t have a build list but I do suggest drawing out what you want to build to get an accurate idea of the parts/connectors you’ll need. And be creative with how you connect cross bars and such, I switched a few multiple times to get it how I liked it.
Awesome looking cart I am thinking of building one, how has the cart worked for you up to this point? any changes to it etc. I was think to use 3/4" for the main frame and 1/2" with Shims for the side rails.
Andrew Markham It has held up great! From the time of the pics I did change the wheels to a never flat with plastic rims, to save weight. Overall it is noticeably heavier than the carts my friends have but not crazily so. The 1/2 would help with that, I seriously considered building it from 1/2 but having never used the connectors prior I wasn’t certain they’d clamp down tight enough, I haven’t tried it since so I couldn’t tell you if it does. Good luck if you decide to do it, and if you do send me a pic I’d like to see it.
Thanks, I went with the Razor handle for its adjustability so I did keep that. Mounting was pretty easy, after you remove the handle assembly off the scooter you’ll find it’s cut to allow it to clamp to the base, I cut half of it away and screwed it to a crossbar, that gave it some strength so it won’t twist. If you zoom in on the back picture you can see it. Then I just used a conduit wall clamp to secure it on the top, it has worked great.
The white material is just polyethylene cutting boards cut into the shapes I needed. I bought them from Amazon, the cheapest ones I could find that were the correct size
