I’m very interested in this. I’m planning on making something similar however I was going to use wood for the sliding horizontal slats and conduit for the legs. My thought was that the pipes would be too far apart for a sleeping pad. What type of pad are you using?
I ordered a custom matress from Tochta. 46x66 and 28x66. Both 7 inches think. My first two attempts were wood. First plywood, then 2x4. The plywood was 5” strips with 5” slats. The weight was a concern for me with the wood. It was also very difficult to pull out. And was really hard to get to slide back in. I could have taken more time sanding, selecting better wood. My third attempt was going to be a hard wood like maple for its trueness and strength. Then I remembered maker pipe. The pipe spacing is 2.5”. If I were to do again I would space them 3.5”. Slept on it 5 nights. Best upgrade to any RV or camper I have ever done.
I just wanna thank you for posting your Youtube video. I hadn't seen makers pipe in 3 years of my research into vanlife. Thank you for introducing it to me, I had given up on my build after 3 years of challenge after challenge and numerous layout changes. I saw your video and was like BABY, Baby look, we're back in business! and to design 2 like I envisioned all along. I was so excited I mocked up the bed in a night and had everything shipped by the end. THANKS again for sharing your design. It helped my 3 part bed design come together and parts be level.
Something not noted above. I used 32mm Stainless Steel Rubber Straps with 3/4" screws, into 3/4" wood. There's a slight gap so it doesn't sit perfectly flush with the wood but it does make for a strong mating. I tried 3 sizes before that one. I don't know that going up a size would have the same strength but you could try. To see my 3 part pull-out bed on sliders go to trulyvantastic on Instagram Rhonda Collins Price

I was planning on making a pull out bed for my studio+bedroom, and had initially planned to use wood. But this seems much better.
Also, how do you ensure minimum friction without making it loose?
