"I enjoyed working with your connectors. I have built things in the past using EMT and galvanized iron pipe, but the Maker Pipe products made this job much easier.

Perhaps the most unusual part of this 1 inch EMT frame that you can share with the community, is the long, 18 foot horizontal main tube that consists of two 9 foot lengths spliced together with a 5 foot long section of 3/4" EMT residing internally, spanning the joint. A standard EMT connector was used with the set screws removed and those two holes drilled through both the outer and inner tubes and re-tapped for 5mm cap screws.

This construction forms a very strong joint (enough to support the sail and its own weight even during heavy winds) But my initial test of this 2-tube assembly made it obvious that there would be enough flexing of this long span to make it seem flimsy. So before ordering the Maker Pipe connectors and starting the build, I added the vertical center tube to the design to remove any possibility of introducing "bounce" into the frame.

(note: the bottom of the vertical center tube is screwed through the pvc deck boards and into a deck joist using stainless steel screws and an aluminum extrusion section that I salvaged from the waste of my neighbor's solar panel installation last year. There was a section of this solar panel attachment bracket that just happened to fit the 1 inch EMT tube and had two tabs with holes for attachment. I didn't document this because it is not something that can be reproduced by the community.) Best, Steve"
