I sometimes use a long extension outside for various purposes and it is time-consuming to unwind and wind the extension cord from the plastic hand-held reel I have.  So I thought it would be a lot easier if I had a better cord reel and attached it to a rolling cart.  My wife and I also like to work outside in the yard and garden, and I thought it would great to have an umbrella we could easily move around the yard on a hot sunny day.

After much research, I could not find any pre-built carts or designs for a do-it-yourself cart like what I wanted, so I sketched out a design and decided on using EMT conduit with Maker Pipe connectors.  The design is basically just a box, and the 90 degree structural connectors made it easier to make everything square.  I spent a lot of time deciding on how to attach the 10 inch tires and finally decided on the simplest design possible: insert the axel (a threaded rod) through the EMT conduit pipes on the bottom of the frame.

The final product turned out exactly as I had envisioned and I have already thought of some additional uses for it.  I have watched many you tube videos on how to make things in the past and thought I would give back a little by making a video of how I built this cart. The video is posted at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcXWZzq61Pg  (if the link does not work, you can search you tube for ‘DIY Utility Cart With Wheels’).  Hope this is useful for someone.
