This is my first attempt at building a basic trellis inspired by all the videos, posts of awesome Maker Pipe community. I am so happy with the results; probably will build many more things with EMT pipe now.

Components used in the trellis design:

From local hardware store:

  • Rebar pins - For middle vertical pipe support

  • 3/4 inch flat washers - This keeps the middle vertical pipe from sinking into soft soil

  • 3/4 inch EMT conduit pipes

  • Twine

Maker Pipe Connectors:

  • Two hole straps for the fence

  • Cross over conduit clamps - These are key as I expect the vertical pipe, fence to shift heights and clamp connector will make it easier to adjust

  • End plugs

For another type of design: (Not shown in the picture)

  • Adjustable flange angle angle connectors (Useful for connecting to flat fence post instead of with a strap on top of the post. If neighbors not happy with the pipe on top of the fence; this adjustable flange works best)

  • Structural couplers - For connecting two EMT pipes for 13 ft length trellis.

  • Adjustable angle hinge connector for structural support pipes

  • Cutter - For cutting the small structural pipes

Lessons learned and Bloopers for first ever EMT conduit work:

  • There are two types of 3/4 inch pipes in hardware store. EMT conduit pipe and another type of steel pipe for plumbing usage. First rookie mistake, I bought the steel pipe instead of EMT light weight pipe 🫣 . I even bought a bender tool for another design and attempted to bend the steel pipe 😬 and broke the bender πŸ˜… .

  • For first timers; make sure to buy right kind of 3/4 inch pipe . its in Electrical section and lighter weight.

  • I originally planned a different more complicated design and ended up figuring a much simpler solution.

  • Left the ends alone without cutting .. I can grow lighter weight vines there or extend them for another design.
