I had need for a different tripod for one of my race clocks. I needed to be able to level it, and stake down the ends so it wouldn't slide.. It needed it to be tall. *It was going to be sitting on the edge of a real steep-sloped berm.

Pictured is Walmart work light stand. I took the center mast out of it and replaced it with conduit. On the legs, I was able to get 3/4 EMT inside the leg.. Then I used connectors, shims, and half inch conduit to make them expandable (telescopic). Lastly, I went to hobby lobby and got some pre-cut circle wood and made some wide feet. I drilled some holes in them (that you likey can't see). Once I got it set-up at my race site I put tent stakes in the feet to secure.
