It has been a while since I built anything worth sharing, but this simple setup is worth sharing. I wanted to position our heated hummingbird feeder in front of a second story window. There is a deck, but with so much water affecting structures here in the Pacific Northwest, I wanted to avoid holes into the railings not to mention puncturing the vinyl-clad deck surface.
We had a couple shepherd’s hooks that are meant to be pushed into the ground, but I wanted a good way to stand them up without physically attaching them. Think of this as a portable stand for the shepherd’s hook—perfect for bird feeders, plants, lighting—anything you put on that hook that you want to move around. Works over decking, concrete etc.
The setup is just a tripod, really, with enough vertical pipe to hold both legs of the hook and oriented so that the weight is supported by the two forward legs. It may not be completely necessary, but I added some weights to the legs to keep it stable over winter should it get windy.
