I wanted some motion sensor solar lights for the walkway by my house, but there was no good place to mount them. So I made a pole and mount with 1/2" conduit, flange, and a piece of treated 2x4. I hammered a 2' piece of rebar into the ground and slid the conduit over it. Tips: paint or stain the wood first, and make sure it's treated wood for outdoor use. Attach the light mounting socket flush with the edge of the wood. Make sure the conduit will slide over the up end of the rebar first--sometimes rebar has a bent end.

If I could redo this, I'd use black motion sensor lights and paint or stain the wood a dark color.
